Tired of the new Preview app on iOS 26? Here's a simple fix - 9to5Mac
Apple's iOS 26 introduced a new app, Preview, which acts as a system-wide file preview, allowing users to view files without needing a separate app. While it's intuitive on the iPad, it can feel cumbersome on the iPhone. Here's why and how to fix it.
The Preview app on iPhone feels redundant because the Files app already handles viewing PDFs, images, and more. However, the argument for keeping it on the iPad is valid, especially with the ability to pin folders to the dock in iPadOS 26. But on the iPhone, the use case is different.
When opening a file on the iPhone, you're likely already in the Files app. Prior to iOS 26, Files handled file viewing directly. Now, it bounces you to Preview, which can be annoying. For instance, if you have a folder of photos, Files used to let you swipe through them, but now you have to go back and forth between the two apps. While long pressing and using 'Quick Look' keeps the file in Files, it's a hassle to remember every time.
The solution? Simply delete the Preview app. By doing so, the Files app reverts to its iOS 18 functionality, opening files directly within the app without any extra steps. This is a convenient fix for those who prefer a streamlined experience.
If you ever want Preview back, you can easily reinstall it from the App Store. And remember, for all your Apple accessory needs, check out our recommendations for essential accessories like MagSafe chargers, power adapters, and more.
